In short

Without an account, your games stay on your phone

Records, streak, coins and settings never leave the device until you create an account.

The account is optional

Nickname, avatar, progress, records, friends and rankings, on our server in Marseille. Delete it any time from the app.

Ads only when you ask for them

To earn coins, through Google AdMob, on Android. In the EU, you choose whether they are personalized.

Payments through Google Play

Coins are bought on Android, through Google Play. We never see your payment details.

Data stored on your device

To work, the app stores locally: your records, games in progress, achievements, quests and streak; your coins, hints and streak freezes; your settings; your coin history and a random identifier for this device. This data is erased from the device if you uninstall the app. On iPhone, the web version keeps it in Safari.

Your account

It only exists if you create it, in the app or on the web version. Our server then keeps:

  • the nickname, avatar and language you choose, and your friend code;
  • a copy of your progress (records, achievements, streak, quests, coins and settings), to bring it back on another device;
  • your friends, requests, blocks and referrals, and the challenges sent and received, with your results and the short note attached;
  • your records, the points they earn you and your ranks in the leaderboards;
  • your daily challenge results, ranked with other players’ under your nickname;
  • your friend notifications and, if you turn them on, the token used to send them to you;
  • the last day you played, which your friends can see.

World leaderboard: only if you join it. Your nickname, avatar and points then become visible to all players. You can leave at any time.

No email, no password: each device receives a secret token, and a recovery code, if you create one, brings the account to another device; the server keeps only a fingerprint of either. The server is hosted by Oracle Cloud Infrastructure in Marseille (France); traffic goes through Cloudflare, which protects it from attacks. Data is kept as long as the account exists; database backups are kept for 14 days, encrypted, on the server and at Backblaze in Amsterdam (Netherlands).

Delete or view your data: in the app, Profile › My account › Delete my account. Without access to the app, write to us with your friend code (see Help › My data).

Games counted without a name

At the end of each game, the app also sends our server, without your account or any identifier: the day, the game, the mode, the level, whether the game was won, its length and the number of hints. These counters, shared by all players, help us improve the game.

Play Games

On Android, if you are signed in to Play Games, the app stores your Mind Engine account’s key there, to find it again on a new phone, and brings an old Play Games save into your account once. Google keeps this data in your Play Games account; we have no access to it.

Ads

Rewarded ads (up to 5 a day), on Android, are provided by Google AdMob. Google receives an advertising identifier from your device, the IP address, technical information and your interactions with the ad. No ad shows unless you ask for it. Change your choice in Settings → Ads and privacy.

Purchases

Coin packs are sold by Google Play, on Android. The app receives the order number to credit your coins only once.

We never see your payment details.

Children

Mind Engine is meant for people aged 13 and over.
